    Bruno Mars

    Peter Gene Hernandez (born October 8, 1985), better known by his stage name Bruno Mars, is an American singer-songwriter and record producer. Raised in Honolulu, Hawaii by a family of musicians, Mars began making music at a young age. After performing in various musical venues in his hometown throughout his childhood, he decided to pursue a musical career and moved to Los Angeles after
    graduating from high school. Mars began producing songs for other artists, joining production team The Smeezingtons.

      Dido


      Dido shot to worldwide success with her debut album, No Angel (1999). The album sold in excess of 21 million copies worldwide, and won several awards; including the MTV Europe Music Award for Best New Act, two NRJ Awards for Best New Act and Best Album, and two BRIT Awards for Best British Female and Best Album. Her following album, Life for Rent (2003), continued her mainstream success with the help of popular singles "White Flag" and "Life for Rent". The album went on to sell around 12 million copies worldwide and saw her receive more accolades; including the Ivor Novello Award for Songwriter of the Year for "White Flag", two further BRIT and NRJ Awards, as well as a Grammy Award nomination. Dido's first two albums, No Angel and Life for Rent, are among the best-selling albums in UK Chart history, and both are in the top 10 best-selling albums of the 2000s in the UK. Her third and latest studio album, Safe Trip Home (2008), received critical praise to help maintain her success. She was nominated for an Academy Award for the song "If I Rise".       Incubus


      Vocalist Brandon Boyd, drummer Jose Pasillas, bassist Alex Katunich and guitarist Mike Einziger began playing together when they were in tenth grade. Somewhere around the year 1994, Incubus released a demo tape called Closet Cultivation. In addition, they released other demos that did not appear on Closet Cultivation, such as Miss Bliss, Purple Kool-Aid, and Damnation? Einziger contacted Joanne Stanulonis, a well known music and math teacher who was always working with school age musical acts, usually on the set or in the studio or on tour.
      Joanne had just finished touring with Steve Vai's teenage musical prodigies, "Bad4Good." With her connections to the music industry and the savior faire to book minor aged acts on Sunset Strip, Joanne booked Incubus at The Roxy, The Troubadour, and The Whiskey before they graduated high school. Through Joanne's friendship with Producer Jim Wirt and his wife Kathleen, Joanne arranged free recording and studio time at 4th Street Recording. It was where Fungus Amongus was produced and recorded. In 1995, turntablist, Gavin Koppell (known by stage name DJ Lyfe) joined them. The band's first major-label release was 1997's six-track EP titled Enjoy Incubus, and was necessarily created so the band could represent a recording while touring with Korn in Europe.

      The All American Reject


      The band formed in Stillwater, Oklahoma, in 1999 while members Tyson Ritter and Nick Wheeler were still in high school. The two originally met in 1997 at a club where an early band of Wheeler's was performing. It was here that Ritter offered himself for bass duties.
      Eventually Ritter and Wheeler decided to form The All-American Rejects.

      Green Day is an American punk rock band formed in 1987. The band consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist and backing vocalist Mike Dirnt, and drummer Tre Cool. Cool replaced former drummer John Kiffmeyer in 1990, prior to the recording of the band's second studio album, Kerplunk, and has been a member of the band since.
      Green Day was originally part of the punk scene at 924 Gilman Street in Berkeley, California. The band's early releases for the independent record label Lookout! Records earned it a grassroots fanbase.

      Greyhoundz


      Greyhoundz was formed in 1997 by cousins Niño and Audie Avenido who at first just wanting to join a local battle of the bands contest together with other bandmates that includes Allen Cudal. The contest was canceled so they opted to audition at the now defunct Club DREDD that was based in Manila. They later recruited Reg Rubio, who was from another band that also played at Club Dredd. They soon recruited TJ Brillantes.

      A1

      British-Norwegian pop group. They were originally made up of Christian Ingebrigtsen, Mark Read, Ben Adams and Paul Marazzi. Their first single, "Be the First to Believe", entered the UK singles chart at #6 in early 1999. They had a huge amount of success worldwide and charts with two number #1s and eight top 10 hits. Adding to this they also won a BRIT Award for "British Breakthrough Act" in 2001. They were formed by band manager Tim Byrne, who also formed Steps. A1 came to an end in 2002 when original member Paul Marazzi left in 2002 and the band subsequently decided to split.
      In August 2009, Ingebrigtsen, Read and Adams announced that they would reform A1, albeit without Marazzi, for a series of concerts in Oslo in December 2009 at the Christiania Theatre.[1] Since their comeback they have already released four new singles, "Take You Home", "Don't Wanna Lose You Again", "In Love and I Hate It" and "Waiting for Daylight". Their fourth studio album, Waiting for Daylight, was released on 11 October 2010. The band have sold 3 million records worldwide.

      Slapshock

      The group was formed on February 14, 1997 by several students at UP Diliman, with original vocalist Reynold Munsayac; he was soon replaced with guitarist Jerry Basco's cousin, Jamir Garcia. Heavily influenced by American East Coast rap, they played in clubs in Manila in the 1990s before signing to EMI Philippines (now PolyEast Records) and releasing their debut album, 4th Degree Burn, in 1999.
      The group has released six albums and been met with sustained commercial success in the Philippines, particularly with their third album, Project 11-41. They were nominated for Band of the Year at the NU107 Rock Awards in 2001 and 2002, and in 2003 were nominated for Best Artist by MTV Asia. Bassist Lee Nadela was also named Bassist of the Year at the 2001 NU107 Rock Awards.

      Finch


      An American rock band from Temecula, California. The band released an EP Falling Into Place and two full-length albums, What It Is to Burn and Say Hello to Sunshine before declaring a hiatus in 2006. Finch reformed in 2007, playing a reunion show on November 23 at the Glasshouse in Pomona, California. They released a self-titled EP a year later, and were in the process of writing their third studio album when they disbanded in late 2010.

      Faber Drive

      A four-piece, Canadian pop rock band from Mission, British Columbia.Discovered by Chad Kroeger of Nickelback, and signed to his 604 Records label after winning Fox Seeds, a local radio challenge, Faber Drive released their debut album, Seven Second Surgery, on May 15, 2007 which was followed by the release of four singles. The band's biggest influences are U2, The Police, Def Leppard, Jimmy Eat World, Stryper.

      Paramita


      Paramita is a three-piece pop rock act in the Philippines that has been playing their own brand of music since 2003. Paramita is made up of Marco De Leon on guitars (replacing Norman Dellosa), Alsey Cortez on bass, and Ria Bautista on drums and vocals. On 2005, they released their first single "Hiling" under Vicor Records which placed them on the map. It was included in the 10-track full-length album entitled Tala, which is still available at all major record bars in the Philippines.

      Mistula


      Mistula is the first Filipino virtual band, and is composed of four customized ball-jointed dolls. They fuse music, graphic art, literature, photography, and other art forms, built around themes of Catholic idolatry and cultural commentary. The band disseminates information and releases songs as well as other creative projects through their official website, and their online presence is maintained through their regularly updated blogs chronicling the band's virtual lives.

      Missing Filemon

      Missing Filemon, considered as the most successful Cebuano-speaking rock band in their time (and up to this time), is said to have derived their monicker from a character Filemon in a classic Visayan folk song ‘Si Filemon’. The first line of its verse goes “Si Filemon, si Filemon, namasol sa kadagatan…” (Filemon is fishing in the sea). Insoy Niñal, the band’s founder, considers the song and the character as an epitome of Cebuano music. The idea of Missing Filemon is synonymous to reviving the Cebuano identity that is somewhat “missing” at the time.

      Neocolours

      Neocolours is a band of pop in the Philippines. It was formed on 1998 and was dissolved on 1994. They were able to release three albums on their sojourn and a compilation album after the dissolution of the band. Neocolours was formed on year1988 in Manila, Philippines. Among its original members were Jimmy Antiporda who deals with the keyboards, Ito Rapadas as the vocalist, Marvin Querido on the 2nd keyboards, Josel Jimenez on guitars, Paku Herrera as the bassist and Nino Regaldo on drums.

      The Jerks

      The Jerks was formed in 1979 and is perhaps the original alternative rock and blues band in the Philippines. The band has undergone a lot of member changes and notably a lot of the previous members of the band are now certified icons themselves in the music scene. Members like Chickoy Pura, Nitoy Adriano, Jun Lupito, Angelo Villegas, and others have carved names in their respective niches. Former Put3ska drummer Brutus Lacano also plays session with the band.

      Razorback


      Razorback first began performing covers of legendary rockers such as Led Zeppelin and Juan De la Cruz Band, Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden. The group was put together by drummer Miguel Ortigas and guitarists Tirso Ripoll and David Aguirre. Members of Razorback and Wolfgang used to jam onstage billed as the Flaming Hemorrhoids.[1] Five years later, the band, composed of Kevin Roy on vocals, Ripoll and Aguirre on guitars, Ortigas on drums and Louie Talan on bass, released their debut album entitled "Hebigat Sounds Volume One". (Hebigat is a portmanteau, created by fusing the words Hebi, a play on the English word heavy, and the Filipino word bigat, literally, heavy.) The album contained such tracks as "Giyang", "Tabi ng Bulkan (Beside the Volcano)" and "Pepe D' Hepe".

Sugar Raims (Raimund Marasigan) is on synths and back-up vocals. The master of drums is Mike Dizon a.k.a. Masterbeat of Sandwich and Teeth. Jason Caballa of Twisted Halo and Blast Ople is the guitarist and back-up vocalist a.k.a. J.Sonic. Just Toni (RA Rivera) is responsible for the band’s visuals and multimedia.

      Mojofly


      A Filipino band offering more radio-friendly, pop-leaning alternative to rock for the youths of today. The band was formed on 1999 by Ricci Gurango after he left ”Hungry Young Poets” as bassist. The band’s lead singer Kitchie Nadal promoted some songs such as Another Day and Scooter Boy to national recognition. The band released two albums; a debut album entitled Birth Day on 1999 and was followed by A Million Stories released on 2002. Both albums were released under the label of Sony Music Philippines. But sadly, on May of 2003, Kitchie left the band to pursue a solo career.

      Junior Kilat


      Junior Kilat originated from Cebu, Philippines. Establishing a name as reggae band, Junior Kilat is popular in Davao-Dumaguete-Bohol regions. Their first exposure was on the album “Island Riddims” which was released on 2004 wherein two of their tracks: “K-Fyne” and “Original Sigbin” were featured. The band again appeared in another album entitled “Island Krismas” which their song, “Kling Klang”.

      Humanfolk


      Assembled in the summer of 2008, the introduction of Alegre, Ibarra and Rodriguez at the United States Embassy in Manila spurred a series of musical and social interactions culminating in the recording sessions for "Humanfolk Suite", a world music cycle by Alegre performed alongside Alexander and Lopez. Towards October, 2008, the Humanfolk threesome of Alegre, Alexander and Lopez performed a live semi-improvised score for a short, silent film by Sasha Palomares, entitled "Une Femme Andalouse", which was awarded the KODAK Best 16mm Experimental Film in that year by the Kodak Filmschool Competition.

      Hastang was formed in February 2005 when Mark and Guile (remnants of the now-defunct indie rock act Squirrel Talk) began jamming with Tessa and Roy with the sole purpose of writing all-original material.
      The band’s first big break came in May 2005 when they made it to the finals of the MTV Hits Cebu band showdown held at the SM City Cebu Parking Lot. With their hard rocking song Oblivion, Hastang went on to win second place over-all in the band competition. Since then, the band’s popularity in the indie scene increased as they made frequent appearances in music bars.

      Dicta License


      Dicta License was one of the three bands that piloted Admit One Productions, a monthly event that serves as a venue for up-and-coming bands to perform and be introduced into the music scene. The other founders were Fatal Posporos and Twisted Halo. The band is also a regular of the Sonic Boom Productions, which is also of similar nature as Admit One, and of RockEd.

      Franco

      Franco started by playing songs from Frank and Inyo. In 2009, they released their self-titled full-length album under MCA Music. Music videos for “Cast Away” and their latest single “This Gathering” were aired on Filipino music channel MYX. Franco also dominated the 2010 NU Rock Awards by winning four awards—Artist of the Year, Song of the Year for “This Gathering”, Album of the Year for their self-titled album, and the Listeners' Choice Award.

      Silent Sanctuary


      Silent Sanctuary’s second album Fuchsiang Pag-ibig, was released under Universal Records in 2007. They did this with the help of their manager Kerwin Rosete who has worked for Parokya ni Edgar, and now the person behind One Big Family Artist Management also manage other OPM bands like Itchyworms, Ciudad, Soapdish, Overtone, Wandering Dew, and Concrete Sam.
      Their Third album called Mistaken for Granted was released on March 27, 2009 under Universal Records with Rommel “Sancho" Sanchez and Buddy Zabala as producers.

      Shampoo ni Lola


      Late-2005, Shampoo ni Lola seemed to have a second wind and have been reactivated their weekend sessions and starting on new compositions. This time, however, the band has a new lead guitarist, Alex Ramirez, subbed for Gilbert, who, by now, is mostly on business trips outside Metro Manila.
      This new incarnation has already performed at Purple Haze and Column Bar. In addition, this revitalized "Shampoo ni Lola" have already recorded six songs as part of their long-awaited new album which they are producing on their own label and will be released by mid-2007.

      Sandwich


      Filipino rock band that was formed in 1995 by Raimund Marasigan and Diego Castillo for the purpose of fulfilling their mutual desire to work together. Castillo recruited former band mates from The Aga Muhlach Experience Mike Dizon (of The Teeth) to play drums and Myrene Academia (of Imago) to handle bass duties. Sandwich was searching for a vocalist when music video director Marie Jamora recommended her friend Marc Abaya. A few years earlier, Marasigan was a judge at a contest where Marc Abaya jammed to a Beastie Boys song with his high-school band, Shirley Beans. Abaya then joined Sandwich, but was later replaced by Mong Alcaraz of the band Chicosci.

      Rocksteddy


      Formerly known as Acoustic Faith, Rocksteddy was founded in March 2003. In 2005, the band released "Lagi Mo Na Lang Akong Dinededma," "Gising Na," and the Close Up jingle "Smile at Me" as their singles. They also provided the theme song, "Superhero," for the ABS-CBN fantasy show Super Inggo and contributed to the "Kami nAPO Muna: Tribute to the Apo Hiking Society" album with a cover of "Blue Jeans". They became part of the Manila sound tribute album, "Hopia, Mani, Popcorn", with their rendition of the Juan dela Cruz song, "No Touch".

      Skabeche

      The group now has performed hundreds of gigs, done several recordings and appeared on TV as well. Currently, Skabeche, hailed as one of the TOP INDEPENDENT ARTISTS in the Philippines, is a regular house band of Ka-toque, 'Lutong Barkada' - a cooking show aired every Saturday at QTV11.       Yano

      Yano is a folk/punk rock band in the Philippines formed in 1993. The band members were originally composed of vocalist Dong Abay and Eric Gancio on guitar. Onie Badiang later joined them as bassist; Nowie Favila was the usual drummer but declined to join the group due to commitments with Ang Grupong Pendong. Other drummers of the band included Nonong Timbalopez, Harley Alarcon and Jun Nogoy. The band got their name when Abay looked through an entry in "Talahulugang Pilipino", an old Tagalog dictionary. "Yano" in Tagalog means "simple", a term often used by Tagalog speakers in Quezon. The group disbanded in 1997 after Dong Abay left the band. As of 2007, Gancio revived Yano as a one-man band, although he will continue to use sidemen as backing musicians for live performances. In 2008, he will be releasing a new album, which he described as the fourth Yano album rather than his second album.

      VST & Company


      VST & Company was a Filipino disco group prominent during the late 1970s in the Philippines. Considered[by whom?] to be the pioneer and icon of what is known as the Manila Sound, VST & Co. released disco singles such as Swing It, Baby, Magsayawan, Ipagpatawad Mo, Awitin Mo, Isasayaw Ko and Disco Fever. The group rose to fame with other bands that were grouped under the Manila Sound genre, such as Hotdog, Cinderella and The Boyfriends. VST & Co. eventually faded from popularity when OPM (Original Pilipino Music), a new musical genre, emerged and rose to prominence in the late 1970s.

      Urbandub

      Urbandub is a Filipino rock band from Cebu City, Philippines. Since its inception in 2000, the band's line-up has consisted of Gabby Alipe (vocals, guitar), John Dinopol (guitar, vocals), and Lalay Lim (bass, vocals). The band's current drummer is Janjan Mendoza, who has been with the band since 2003.
      Urbandub is the first indie band who has released albums nationwide thru EMI’s help. EMI also featured Urbandub in a Pinoy rock compilation entitled FULL VOLUME with a remake of Sade’s No Ordinary Love. The band recently garnered the attention of fans throughout Southeast Asia with a recent tour in Singapore.

      True Faith


      True Faith or Truefaith started in 1992, and since then, has become one of the Philippines' most popular and accomplished bands. The band took its name from New Order's 1987 hit single "True Faith", revealing the group's new wave origins. At first, True Faith mined mid-'80s new wave sounds for its breezy pop formula, but the group eventually ventured further into the Philippine mainstream, firmly embracing middle of the road radio. Under the Viva Records label, the band has 13 best-selling albums. Their music is best described as a blend of jazz, folk, pop and rock music.

      Tanya Markova


      Tanya Markova was initially formed late 2004 by Harlon Agsaoay a.k.a. "Norma Love" (vocalist, co-songwriter, tambourine) and Angelo del Pilar a.k.a. "Iwa Motors" (vocalist, co-songwriter, bell ringer). Iwa immediately thought of an idea to combine sappy melodies and scary caricature-driven lyrics, then they decided to compose songs filled with sarcasm, idiocy, and childish ramblings. During those times the song they’ve created were only meant to be a joke, with nonsensical titles like "Yak my Bulate", "Mahirap Maging Bopis", and "Hoy Bampira ako Takot ka na?" (later shortened to "Bampira" and the first song they’ve ever completed). It took several months before they could find members who would agree to their concept, and almost 2 years to complete the line-up and perform live onstage.

      Sugarfree


      Sugarfree was a pop-alternative group that was formed in 1999. Their sound was heavily influenced by the likes of Popsicle, Eraserheads, Oasis, and Radiohead. The initial line up had The Pin-Ups' Mitch Singson on drums. Singson left the band in August 2006 for personal reasons. Quisumbing immediately took place.
      They were signed to Viva Records but their album was shelved. By 2003, thanks to the help of Tracks Studio's Angee Rozul, their freshman offering was picked up and released by EMI Philippines (now known as PolyEast Records).

      Sponge Cola

      Sponge Cola is the third album of the Pinoy rock band Sponge Cola. Under Universal Records, Sponge Cola is already out in all major record bars. "Puso" is the first single from the album and is frequently heard after games during the UAAP Broadcast on Studio 23 as it was selected as the theme song for season 71. Their 2nd single "Di Na Mababawi", marked the band's departure from the standard full band rock formula, opting for simpler instrumentation. They then released the repackaged version of this album along with the 3rd single Ayt. The new version of the song featured Gary Valenciano on vocals and synths. This is essentially the band's first dance song. Sponge Cola then released their 4th single Wala Kang Katulad and then released their 5th single Makapiling Ka.

      South Border




      South Border is a Filipino pop and R&B band formed in the 90s who gained recognition in the music scene in the 2000s. Having undergone several permutations in its long career, South Border has nevertheless retained its unique sound and musical sensibility and has even moved up along the current global trends in music. Hence, retaining the top spot in their particular musical genre. Much credit goes to musical director and lead creative genius Jay Durias, the staunchest unifying force that has kept the band and its music alive and thriving.

        Moonstar 88


        Moonstar88 was formed in 1999. They were signed to Sony BMG by 2007. The band members all maintain successful careers outside their work as musicians. Maychelle is a pharmacist with academic achievements outside music; Paolo is a famous video director; Bon is an Art Director; and Herbert is an accomplished Creative Director. The name of the band was chosen after they had landed a gig, but did not have a name for their band. They wrote down a list of names and when they were about to perform, they choose Moonstar. They added the number 88 since Moonstar was the 88th name on their list. They belong to Backbeat Management - the same management that handles more famous bands such as Parokya ni Edgar, Kamikazee, Queso, and The Youth and more recently Franco.

        MYMP


        M.Y.M.P. (or MYMP, short for Make Your Mama Proud) is an acoustic band act from the Philippines, which consists of five members. Their career started when Raymond Ryan, a station manager of iFm watched one of their gigs, and met up with a producer to produce their 2003 debut album, Soulful Acoustic, which has since been certified Platinum. In 2005, M.Y.M.P. released their second album titled Beyond Acoustic and third album Versions through Ivory Music. The success of the two albums prompted the re-release of their second and third albums in a 2-disc set the same year. In 2006, they released their fourth album, New Horizon, and DVD of their concert in the Music Museum. In 2008, M.Y.M.P. released their last album on Ivory Music, titled Now, as the group signed a deal with Star Records.

        Orange and Lemons

        Orange and Lemons was a band of Filipino pop rock of indie and alternative. It was first initiated on year 1999 and unfortunately on year 2007 was their official split-up. The band’s name was Oranges and Lemons recommended by one member not knowing that the name was taken from the British nursery rhyme and the title of British band, XTC. Since then, they changed it to Orange and Lemons, removing the (s) of the Orange. Its influences were “The Beatles”, “The Smiths”, “The Cure” and the “Eraserheads”.
