Missing Filemon
Missing Filemon, considered as the most successful Cebuano-speaking rock band in their time (and up to this time), is said to have derived their monicker from a character Filemon in a classic Visayan folk song ‘Si Filemon’. The first line of its verse goes “Si Filemon, si Filemon, namasol sa kadagatan…” (Filemon is fishing in the sea). Insoy NiƱal, the band’s founder, considers the song and the character as an epitome of Cebuano music. The idea of Missing Filemon is synonymous to reviving the Cebuano identity that is somewhat “missing” at the time.
